The ROAR of Open Access

Tracking the comparative performance of open access repositories, particularly the measurement of repository growth, was early on identified as a suitable mission for the  Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) , the  UK  agency  providing leadership in the use of information and communications technology in support of learning, teaching, research and administration.

JISC coordinated the funding of the ROAR Registry of Open Access Repositories http://roar.eprints.org/ has just been upgraded to the full power of the EPrints software’s functionality.

ROAR provides a page display for each registered repository, including the ability to track repository size, contents and growth across time, by country, repository type, and other parameters.

Besides monitoring the growth of analyze repository growth worldwide, this kind of measurement tool can stoke institutional competition, the urgency of creation, and hasten the response to local  mandates.

Register your repository if it is not yet in ROAR. With registration,  you will be able to edit or update  your record. And register your institution’s Open Access Mandate in ROARMAP, ROAR’s companion service to  track open access mandate growth worldwide.
